On the afternoon of May 16, 2019, Professor Zheng Dongping from the Department of second language studies of the University of Hawaii was invited to give a lecture at the school of foreign languages. The lecture was presided over by Associate Professor Liu Xiqin. It mainly focuses on the writing and publication of academic papers.

Professor Zheng received her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from The University of Connecticut in 2006, and taught at Michigan State University from 2006 to 2009 and at the University of Hawaii from 2014 to the present. Professor Zheng’s perspective on second language research is unique, applying ecopsychology, dialogics, and distributional cognition to expand traditional humanistic-centered theories of second language acquisition. She has mainly put forward negotiation for action theory, language as values realizing theory,and language learners as caretakers theory, which are unique in the international second language research field. He is unique in the field of international second language research. She has published many papers in the world's leading SCI and SSCI journals on language and intercultural communication, such as Modern Language Journal, Language Sciences, Linguistics and Education.
In this lecture, Prof. Zheng Dongping shared the methods and insights of thesis selection, writing and submission with his own research experience. This academic feast was not only informative, but also vivid and interesting. She advised students to manage and plan their time well, and to devote themselves to writing their dissertations.Academic research may be boring, but if you meditate and put your heart into it, you can feel the charm of academic research. When it comes to choosing a topic for the dissertation, Prof. Zheng Dongping suggested that students should prepare a small notebook with them to record their fleeting inspirations at any time. She explained in detail the considerations for each part of the dissertation writing structure and gave feasible writing suggestions; she shared her own experience of publishing papers and books, encouraging students and teachers to strive to publish their personal academic achievements, gradually establish a scholarly identity with personal characteristics, make the voice of Chinese scholars in the international arena, and spread Chinese academic wisdom.
