On March 19 and March 21, 2019, a meeting attended by all MTI graduate students and academic master students were held in Building 4, Room 502, respectively, which focused on the graduation of the graduating class, proposal defense of the second-year graduates, assessment of the first year and other important matters. Vice Dean Wu Jianguo, Zhu Xianlong and relevant graduate supervisors of the School were present at the meeting.

The meeting

At the MTI postgraduate conference, Vice Dean Zhu Xianlong introduced in detail the conditions required for graduation from our MTI program. He suggested that students should choose to write translation practice reports or academic papers according to their own situations, and that only texts that are close to their own practice and yield concrete findings and insights are the most suitable texts. In addition, students should also pay attention to the connection between theory and translation examples in the process of writing, reflecting the logic of applying theory to practice and explaining practical phenomena, instead of making generalized remarks.

(Speech by Vice Dean Zhu Xianlong)

In the meeting of academic master students, Prof. Deng Renhua firstly introduced in detail the process of blind examination, pre-defense and defense of thesis for graduating students, as well as matters such as mid-term assessment and thesis opening for non-graduating students, emphasizing the rigor of academic research, the seriousness of thesis writing and the importance of thesis checking. Next, Vice Dean Wu encouraged students to cherish their postgraduate time, concentrate on their studies and research, and strive to become an excellent postgraduate student who can contribute to Chinese academics in the real sense.
