On the morning of December 6, 2018, Professor Ding Jianxin, a doctoral tutor of the School of Foreign Languages of Sun Yat-sen University and Dean of the School of Foreign Languages of the Southern College of Sun Yat-sen University, came to our school to explain the story of English and explain the theory and practice of marginal discourse analysis. The lecture was presided over by Professor Wu Jianguo, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Languages. Some teachers and graduate students of our school attended the lecture.
Professor Ding Jianxin Gave a Lecture
From phenomenal films, classical masterpieces to classic academic treatises, Professor Ding Jianxin used vivid language stories to explain the concept of marginal discourse, and introduced its research overview. The lectures were simple and easy to understand.Professor Ding also shared the research practices related to marginal discourse analysis with the teachers and students of our school, and explained the research ideas and directions of marginal discourse analysis.
Teachers And Students Listen Carefully
In the question-and-answer session, Professor Ding answered the conceptual difference between marginal discourse and jargon in detail, and further clarified the definition and classification of marginal discourse. Regarding the question of whether Internet language can be regarded as marginal discourse, Professor Ding clarified the communication characteristics of Internet language by comparing the characteristics of traditional communication methods and modern communication methods, and pointed out feasible research directions,which deeply inspired the students.

At the end of the lecture, Professor Wu Jianguo made a brief summary of Professor Ding’s lecture content, and sent a message to the students to pay more attention to the disadvantaged groups in the society and their marginalized discourses, and to be a postgraduate student with a sense of family and country and a sense of socialre sponsibility.
