From July 23 to August 10, 13 undergraduates of business English in SFL visited University College London and participated in a short-term exchange program. During this program in London, the students took courses about management practices, communication skills, business analysis and decision making. They also visited cultural and historical attractions and conducted business visits in London. This program aims at broadening the students’ horizons, and making talents cultivation in SFL more international.

Students of the Exchange Program
This program is one of the funded exchange programs in deeply reformed projects for undergraduates in 2018. The courses of the program cover “business and management”, “training of English language” and involve practices in decision making, group work, negotiation skills,etc. During these courses, the students discussed restrictions, bias and traps in decision making, how to recognize and avoid mistakes in making decisions and the advantages and disadvantages of group work.Besides, the students talked about negotiations and its basis. By the end of the program, they completed reports according to their own interests, such as a report on the cultural difference of business behaviors between China and America or a business report based on the case research of company. Teachers appraised these reports and gave them written appraisal reports.

After the courses and under the guidance of UCL, the students experienced the charm of the long history of London by visiting the Museum of London, Greenwich, maritime heritages and so on. The visits of the time-honored heritages of maritime trade and magnificent Buckingham Palace made this journey worthy.

Taking this opportunity and under the topics about management practices, communication skills, business analysis and decision making, the students had face-to-face communication with international masters,and gained better understanding towards the practical application of business English in life. It also broadened their horizons and made them feel the stark difference between countries and cultures.
