time: 2018-06-08

Professor Gregory B·Lee delivered a speech entitled “China Imagined: From Western Fantasy to Spectacular Power” on the afternoon of May 31st, 2018.

Pic. Professor Gregory was giving a lecture.

The lecture was divided into two parts. The first part was from “What lies before China/ Chinese” to “China as a united nation” and the second part was “an increasingly strong country”. Citing “China” as an example, Professor Lee raised the question——“what and when is China” which caught teachers’ and students’ interest. Then, Professor Lee proposed that “China” or “Chinese” generally referred to groups or things of Chinese culture, reflecting the cultural inequality to some extent, as evidence proved by some cartoons. At last, he concluded that the “Chinese dream” was the collective wisdom beyond restrictions instead of “technological nightmare” or “brazen diplomacy”.

Professor Lee’s in-depth research on China was of great benefit and resonance to the present teachers and students. As Chinese, everyone should be grateful for the prosperity of today’s China and be full of confidence in its future. Looking ahead, we will stay true to our original aspirations and continue to march forward.
