Since the start of the 21st century, a rapid development of applied linguistics both at home and abroad, has been occurring which has garnered remarkable achievements in the study of Second Language Acquisition, Foreign Language Teaching, Psycholinguistics, Neuro-linguistics, Corpus linguistics, Foreign Language Testing and Teacher Development. Throughout this process, learning from foreign research achievements, in combination with realistic and progressive application within our country, scholars have made their own unique contributions to the world by tackling academic problems with innovative insight and creative thinking.

  

In order to understand the recent developments of international applied linguistics research better as well as to showcase high-level research results by our scholars, the Editorial Department of Foreign Language Teaching and Research of Beijing Foreign Studies University and the School of Foreign Languages of SCUT will jointly host the 1st International Seminar of Application of Linguistics (ISAL) on June 3, 2017 in Guangzhou.

  

The Seminar organized in the form of a roundtable discussion will have 26 well-known scholars participating - 13 keynoters and 13 discussants. The keynote speakers will deliver 20-minute speeches, unified by international cutting edge studies of familiar areas or special topics, including reviews, surveys or independent research. The discussants will deliver 10-minute expositions as extensions of keynote speeches to enrich understanding as well as facilitate dynamic participation and discuss.

We warmly welcome participation in the seminar in Guangzhou. As a participant, you will meet the experts and have the opportunity to engage in intellectual discussion with them face-to-face, learning firsthand of the progress of applied linguistics at home and abroad!

  

All participants have to cover [their own] expenses as well as pay a ¥600 RMB registration fee, which includes materials and food during the seminar.

  

Participants should take care of accommodations by themselves. The Xihu Hotel of SCUT, and the Scholar Building of SCUT, as well as Home Inns and Zhuyuan Hotel are nearby recommended locations.

Seating for the seminar is limited and registration processing will be conducted on a first come basis.
