A lecture named “Foreign Language Teaching and Academic Researching and Writing” was delivered by Professor Shu Dingfang on Nov, 21, 2013. Professor Shu is the chief editor ofForeign Language, a core journal of foreign language disciplines. Held by Professor Wu Jiangguo, President Zhong Shuneng and many other teachers and students attended this lecture.

In the lecture, Professor Shu first focused on English teaching renovation. After that he summed up main characteristics of foreign language teaching and researching, and he also made comparison between some teaching methods and academic research. Then he also presented the specific steps in doing research and offered some specific and pragmatic writing skills after analyzing three main problems in academic paper writing and its review some standards of the Foreign Language periodical.He said that what teachers should do is “to adjust teaching methods to stimulate students to learn”. According to him, “Abstract writing plays a key role in a paper”. “An indispensable way for us to write a good paper is to read extensively”.Professor Shu used simple but vivid examples to make his lecture clear and lucid.

Professor Shu’s witty and humorous lecture left a deep impression on all the attendants. The lecture is not only a guide for teachers to adjust their teaching methods but also a guide for students to gain pragmatic knowledge in academic writing and researching.
