The students were highly expected and definitely required to live up to all the staffs of SFL and their supervisors , which helped them set their directions as early as possible. Liu Caigang, Deputy Secretary of SFL, hosted the meeting and introduced leaders and supervisors present at the meeting to all the students.

Firstly, Zou Hao, Secretary of SFL, delivered a speech, saying that the arrival of freshmen invigorates SFL. In combination with his own experience, he vividly explained “perseverance” with a story. He said, “There is one kind of flower which blossoms only once in its life. It perseveres just for that moment’s splendidness. We should learn from it and persist for that moment’s splendidness in our life.”

Then on behalf of all the staffs, Professor Liu Jianbo delivered a humorous and witty speech. He mentioned some basic requirement on the part of postgraduates, saying “As a language researcher, you must lay a solid foundation. Professor Luo Shiping amused us by saying something humorous, and then he sincerely stressed the importance of persistence in reading. At last, Zhong Shuneng, Dean of SFL, introduced supervisors one by one and their academic achievements. Then he talked about “trinity” in terms of building, master and truth”. He also stressed that we were proud of having linguistic master like Qin Xiubai. Besides, he highly expected the graduates to be able to have at least one paper published before their graduation.

After the ceremony, the freshmen began to communicate with their supervisors respectively and made concrete plans during their stay at SCUT. The ceremony issued explicit requirements on the part of students and helped them set directions, which will benefit them a lot.
