SFL's new leadership held its first meeting with students, in which Party secretary ZOU Hao and the dean ZHONG Shu-neng briefed the current conditions of SFL and expressed their expectations to the students.

ZOU noted that life is metaphorically a journey to the top of a mountain. Some may stop at the foot of the mountain while others cease at the mountainside. However there must be someone who may strive to reach the mountain top for better views. Surely their future will be different as efforts do pay off. He encouraged the students to fight for their dreams which may bring them the pleasure of viewing on the mountain of success. He also suggested the students should be sincere as a man and responsible to his work, and get a clear picture of where to go and stick to it.

Dean ZHONG Shu-neng then shared with the students the development of SFL. He said that there were few professors and no masters in current teaching staff, no independent building and insufficient funds for scientific researches in SFL; therefore, every SFLer should be hardworking and creative to strive for success and independence. As to the reform of SFL, he emphasized the idea of ensuring the best development of every student and promised to improve the facilities to better serve the students. Besides, he pointed out the great gap in discipline construction between SFL and its counterparts in other universities of "985 Program", and suggested everyone should be self-disciplined and enhance personal competitiveness. In the end, ZHONG provided the authentic translation of “proud of SCUT today and pride of SCUT tomorrow(今日我以华工为荣,明日华工以我为傲 )" to inspire the students to work hard.

Finally, vice secretary LIU Caigang motivated the students with the prospect of "Chinese Dream", and urged them to behave enthusiastically and wisely. After the meeting, the students expressed their determination to make contributions to the development of the school, and their strong belief in building a better SFL under the new leadership.
