Sunkist School, Shining Summer

time: 2010-06-17

May is always wonderful and unforgettable, while in the year of 2010, it is more than wonderful and unforgettable, dotting with the pleasure of the first successful themed month of our school. With the Asian Games approaching, we felt the need to do something special. Under careful consideration, the Students’ Union of School of Foreign Languages has outlined a blueprint for the first themed month, with the theme Sunkist School, Shining Summer, to rejoice in the beautiful summer by a series of activities. The activities for the whole month had effectively embellished the theme and our embrace of the exhilarating Asian Games.
The Fun Sports Meeting having been the curtain-raiser, students had taken delight in the following attractive games: table tennis, badminton, basketball and football. They had tasted the bitter and sweet pursuit of championship on the field, as if they were real athletes in the Asian Games.
In addition, a project aimed to tutor pupils from the Wushan primary school and equip them with basic knowledge of the Asian Games, a training session for the voluntary computer fixers, and the Fun Guinness, etc, were held. The students had joy and fun in the sun.
What’s more, our school’s cheering squad had gained the deserving Second Prize by dedicating efforts, sweats and wonderful performance. How exciting! Congratulations!
How could we leave behind the most glaringly shining star of the themed month? The Foreign Languages Singing Contest had set the fuse to instant explosion of our passion. Dozens of students had participated in the contest acting like real singers. We had the top ten contestants competing in the final on the night of May 29th, the day when the closing ceremony of our themed month was on. The audience had a feast of excellent music and performances. In those lasting cheers and applauds, the curtain of the themed month was brought down.
Parting was such a sweet sorrow. We were glad that our school had lived up to the theme Sunkist School, Shining Summer, and the next themed month will come in two years’ time.
With the past success and the problems arising up along the way, we still have much to do to improve the quality of our activities and benefit more students. Actions and hard work sound louder than mere words. Let’s long for the next spectacle! (by Kevin Lee)
