B.A. Program for Business English

Program Profile

The Business English program is a highly interdisciplinary major within the category of Foreign Language and Literature. It draws on the academic strengths of foreign language and literature, applied economics, business administration, and international commercial law. Since its inception in 2014, the program has grown steadily in national recognition. It was designated a National First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Site in 2020 and has consistently ranked first nationwide (A+ rating) in the Shanghai Ranking’s China University Subject Rankings in both 2023 and 2024. The program is supported by a strong team of 20 full-time faculty members, including 10 professors, 5 associate professors, and 5 lecturers. All faculty hold doctoral degrees and have experience in overseas study or international research collaboration. The team includes one nationally recognized teaching master, two young scholars from major national talent initiatives, three experts awarded special government allowances by the State Council, and seven provincial-level awardees recognized as outstanding teachers or teaching masters.

Leveraging the geographic advantages of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the academic resources of a national “Double First-Class” Class A university, the program has developed an innovative “One Driver, Four Dimensions” talent cultivation model. It is designed to foster “three-creation” (innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship) talents with a strong sense of innovation, entrepreneurial mindset, and creative problem-solving skills. The curriculum is structured around four distinctive modules: the language knowledge module focuses on cultivating students’ solid English-Chinese bilingual foundation; the business competence module strengthens students’ international business communication and practical skills; the humanistic literacy module enhances students’ critical thinking and autonomous learning abilities; and the innovation and entrepreneurship module expands students’ business thinking and innovative capabilities. The program benefits from rich academic resources, including a well-stocked library and multiple practical platforms. Notably, it houses several research centers and internship bases, including the Research Center of Indian Ocean Island Countries (RCIOIC).

In terms of international collaboration, the program maintains undergraduate exchange partnerships with prestigious institutions such as the University of Cambridge, the University of Nottingham, the London School of Economics and Political Science, the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Pennsylvania. It also offers “2+2” and “2+3” joint degree pathways with universities including Lancaster University, the University of Western Australia, the University of Hawai‘i, and American University. Graduates of the program consistently achieve some of the highest employment rates within the university, reflecting strong market competitiveness. Through comprehensive professional training and a globally oriented educational approach, the Business English program is dedicated to cultivating business professionals with international vision, cross-cultural communication skills, and a spirit of innovation.
