Smooth Transportation, Reaching All Directions — A Documentary of the Hong Kong Internship Program for the Transportation Engineering and Transportation Students

From July 6 to 13, 2024, the School of Civil Engineering and Transportation at South China University of Technology organized a summer internship and industry exchange program for 262 undergraduate students. The program aims to expose students to cutting-edge engineering practices and research in an international context, fostering early career planning.

A group of about 40 students from the Transportation Engineering and Traffic Transportation majors embarked on a three-day educational trip to Hong Kong, guided by faculty members Pengpeng Xu and Zhiyong Wang. During the trip, they visited three renowned universities, two companies, and one institution, engaging in academic exchanges and professional insights that expanded their understanding of the field.

 

The itinerary included enriching visits to the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, ARUP Consulting, Key Direction Ltd., the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the University of Hong Kong. These visits provided the students with a comprehensive perspective on the latest developments in civil and transportation engineering, bridging academic learning with industry practice.

 

This successful experience has not only enhanced students’ professional understanding but also inspired their future career paths, marking a significant milestone in the college’s ongoing international efforts.
