The 16th Water Science Development Forum Successfully Held at South China University of Technology

From April 7th to 9th, the 16th Water Science Development Forum was successfully held at the Wushan Campus of South China University of Technology. The forum was hosted by the School of Civil Engineering and Transportation at South China University of Technology. Over 600 experts, scholars, and graduate students from more than 100 universities and research institutes nationwide, including Tsinghua University and Peking University, participated in this forum. Zhang Weijie, the Party Secretary of the School of Civil Engineering and Transportation, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech, Professor Huang Guoru from the Department of Hydraulic Engineering presided over the opening ceremony.

This forum focused on pressing issues such as the increasing severity of urban flood disasters against the backdrop of global climate change. It adopted a format combining “guidance-style presentations and discussion-style speeches”. The forum primarily discussed four key topics: “Formation Mechanism and Evolutionary Patterns of Urban Flood Disasters”, “Urban Flood Simulation and Prevention Technologies”, “Theory and Practice of Sponge City Construction”, and “Spatial-Temporal Evolution Patterns of Water and Drought Disasters under Changing Environments”.

The closing ceremony of the forum was presided over by Professor Cheng Xiangju, the Director of the Department of Hydraulic Engineering at the School of Civil Engineering and Transportation, South China University of Technology. Professor Zuo Qiting, the founder of the Water Science Development Forum, delivered the concluding remarks. The scale of participation in this edition surpassed previous ones, making it a splendid and diverse academic feast. The 16th Water Science Development Forum concluded with great success.
