In order to create a better teaching development platform for the university teachers, create more academic space for free exchange of teaching problems and improve teaching ability of teachers, the university specially organized a series of workshops on ‘excellent teachers talking about teaching’. On the afternoon of November 26, 2020, the school of civil engineering and transportation held a workshop on improving the teaching ability by Xiaoqing Zhang, the chief professor of the basic mechanics teaching team, in the Jiaotong building, room 410. The theme of the workshop was: first-class course construction and ideological and political course of basic mechanics. The workshop was presided over by Associate Professor Hong Zhang and attended by 13 teachers including Professor Jing Ji, Vice Dean of teaching of the college.

Professor Xiaoqing Zhang first introduced the construction of the national offline first-class course of mechanics of materials. The construction of first-class undergraduate courses must meet the requirements of high-level course objectives, innovative course contents and implementation, and challenging assessment methods, adhere to student-oriented, deeply think about teaching contents and teaching methods, be brave in innovation and constantly reform. Professor Jing Ji pointed out that the first-class course construction needs to be polished repeatedly, and the basic mechanics teaching team has made a lot of efforts in the course construction to declare success. The participating teachers had in-depth discussions on MOOC construction and online and offline hybrid teaching methods, and learned excellent cases of online teaching during the epidemic period.

Then, Professor Xiaoqing Zhang introduced the overall scheme and implementation methods of ideological and political construction of basic mechanics course, and shared the designation of ideological and political course on the concept and development history of mechanics and the mechanical properties of materials. The ideological and political construction of the courses should be comprehensively planned, step by step, from point to face and guided by demonstration. The important thing is to improve teachers' ability to integrate ideological and political education into teaching.

It was also warmly discussed that how to carry out classroom discussion, how to use MOOC, how to give full play to students' learning consciousness, how to carry out case teaching and so on. The activity ended in a pleasant atmosphere. The teachers gained a lot and still have more to say. They are looking forward to the next teaching seminar.
