Congratulations to Professor Huang Peiyan team for winning the first prize of Science and Technology Progress of the Ministry of Education

The Ministry of Education recently issued the Decision of the Ministry of Education on the Award of Scientific Research Excellence in Colleges and Universities in 2020 (Science and technology).  The project Advanced Materials Reinforced Concrete Structure Life Extension and Durability Technology in Service Environment led by South China University of Technology, with Professor Huang Peiyan as the first finisher, won the first Prize of Science and Technology Progress. The information and introduction of the winning project are as follows:

Project name: Advanced material reinforced concrete structure life extension and durability technology in service environment   

Principal accomplisher: Huang Peiyan, Xie Jianhe, Guo Yongchang, Yao Guowen, Guo Xinyan, Zhuo Jing, Li Bo, Zheng Xiaohong, Li Shiya, Yang Yi, Lin Jiaxiang, Chen Zhanbiao, Zhou Hao, Zhao Chen, Li Dongyang.

Main completion unit: South China University of Technology, Guangdong University of Technology, Chongqing Jiaotong University.

Application of new materials developed by the project in a large bridge

Project Introduction: The project carried out a series of theoretical and technical studies on the durability and safe service of concrete structures such as Bridges and docks in typical sub-tropical service environment, and achieved the following innovative results:  1) Invented a variety of advanced new building materials such as fiber reinforced laminate, established the environmental fatigue and fracture theory of advanced materials reinforced concrete structures, and established its environmental fatigue/durability evaluation method and technology;  2) Invented a series of (prestressed) fiber reinforced RC structure technology, and established the life extension and durability technology of fiber  reinforced/strengthened RC structure under service environment; 3) Established the life extension and durability technology of steel fiber polymer structure concrete composite structure, formulated the construction technology and obtained the provincial construction method.  The project has obtained 23 authorized invention patents and 25 other intellectual property rights. The research results have been applied to the life extension reinforcement of 34 Bridges, 6 roads and 3 docks, and achieved significant social and economic benefits.  (Photo/Chen Zhanbiao, School of Civil Engineering and Transportation)
