From November 23rd to 24th, the 2019 China (Xiaoguwei) Internet+Transportation Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition - China University Transportation Creators Competition Final and Smart Transportation for the Construction of a Strong Transportation Country Summit Forum were successfully held at South China University of Technology.
The competition is co-organized by South China University of Technology and Guangdong Yueyun Transportation Company Limited, and hosted by School of Civil Engineering and Transportation, which is open to major universities across China and has become an important platform for the innovation and entrepreneurship practice for college students with strong influence in China since 2015. The competition has grown from a dozen universities to more than 120 schools in 22 provinces, four municipalities directly under the Central Government, four autonomous regions of ethnic minorities, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Taiwan, covering almost all institutions offering transportation, traffic engineering, and intelligent transportation majors in China. This year's competition is an extraordinary success, with more than 700 teams registered from more than 100 universities in China, including Hong Kong, Hainan, Xinjiang, and Tibet that have not been covered in previous years.
Over the past six months, the competition has received strong guidance and support from government departments in charge of transportation, relevant domestic universities, research institutes, and famous enterprises. Under the care and guidance of all units, the competition has achieved fruitful results and has organized a series of special theme activities, such as the Summit Forum on Intelligent Transportation for the Construction of the Strong Transportation Country and the Youth Innovation Training Camp, which have generated good social repercussions.
With the theme of Gathering Innovation and Entrepreneurial Energy to Promote High-Quality Development of Transportation, 39 teams successfully advanced to the final round of the competition after two rounds of screening by experts. On November 24th, the 2019 China (Xiaoguwei) Internet+Transportation Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition - China University Transportation Creators Competition Final was held in Jiaotong Building of South China University of Technology’s Wushan Campus. The first round of the final competition was a combination of team roadshow and expert evaluation and was divided into three groups to compete in classrooms 509, 516, and 517 of Jiaotong Building. The committee of the semi-final were top experts from government departments, top universities, famous design institutes, and enterprises.
The final competition was held at 14:00 on 24 November at the Academic Auditorium of South China University of Technology. After two stages of fierce competition, namely 9 in 4 and Grand Prize Voting, four first prizes were awarded (the Grand Prize was vacant), eight-second prizes, and 23 third prizes.
The award ceremony was opened at 17:00 on 24 November at the Academic Lecture of Jiaotong Building of South China University of Technology. More than 100 leaders and guests attended the award ceremony and closing ceremony, including finalists, industry representatives, participants and university representatives, special guests and audience, and members of the organizing committee of the Creators.
The award ceremony was hosted by Vice President Wen Huiying of School of Civil Engineering and Transportation of South China University of Technology. Mr. Xiang Cong, Director of Academic Affairs Department of South China University of Technology, delivered a speech on behalf of the university. Mr. Xiang pointed out that the successful holding of the 2019 China (Xiaoguwei) Internet + Transportation Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition - China University Transportation Creators Competition effectively promoted the deep integration of the Internet, big data, artificial intelligence, etc. with the transportation industry and improved the five-pronged innovation cooperation system of government, industry, academia, research and application, provided strong support for the cultivation of talents and the development of transportation technology in China’s transportation industry, and made a new and greater contribution to the construction of a strong transportation country.
Afterward, Professor Huang Helai from Central South University and Director Su Kui from Public Transport Department of Guangzhou Transportation Bureau commented on the entries of the competition. Professor Huang Helai pointed out that the project works of the competition were more innovative than the previous ones, and he felt the students' love for transportation during the evaluation of the entries. The scale of the competition is becoming larger with an increasing number of participating teams, and the standards of entries are also higher. Director Su Kui expressed his hope that the competition could become better and stronger in the future.
At the end of the conference, a grand award ceremony was held. The first, second, and third prizes of the Creators Competition were awarded on site. Among them, four projects from Southwest Jiaotong University, Tongji University, and South China University of Technology won the first prize in the Creators Competition.
