From July 12 to July 31, 2021, the Civil Engineering Excellent English Class of 2018 has successfully carried out a three-week production internship.
With the goal of in-depth practicing, 25 students went to five different construction project sites of The Eighth Bureau of China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) in Guangzhou and Shenzhen respectively. The production internship covered various aspects of construction projects, from the foundation to main construction. The students participated enthusiastically and felt rewarding.

As a leading company ofconstruction company in China, The Eighth BureauOf CSCEC has advanced technology and management capabilities. It provided a good environment and great assistance for the students of the class during their internship. All projects in the internship arehigh-rise building projects, which involve advanced technology and knowledge. At the same time, the engineers of the Eighth Bureau of CSCEC packed various technical knowledge toour students and assigned each student with a mentor forsolving difficulties in the internship.

Every 3 to 5 students chose different departments to finish in-depth internships according to their interests. Through the internship, the students understood the working process and details of construction companies, which laid a good foundation for their future. In the construction sites, the students worked and lived with technical personnel and were well integrated into this construction unit. Through interacting with the employees, they also get to know more about the operation of construction companies, to have a more complete understanding of the construction companies.

Practice is the sole criterion to test the truth. Even if the students have already mastered the theoretical knowledge, they can learn the knowledge through practice furthermore. This production internship allowed the students to know more about equipment and management scheme during the construction. The students canuse their knowledge in reality instead of purely theoretical calculation.
As the old saying goes, “Paper will sleep shallow, never know the matter want to practice”. After 20 days’ internship, the students of the class got close to society and get a clearer direction of their future development.
