On December 8th, 2017, the symposium of construction plan of “South China Institute of Geotechnical Engineering” was held in State Key Laboratory of Subtropical Building Science in SCUT.

7 specialists and scholars in and out of campus, principals from Office of Development Strategy and Planning, School of Civil Engineering and Transportation, and South China Institute of Geotechnical Engineering, as well as principals from other departments attended the symposium.

Professor Yu Qijun, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SCUT Committee, attended and addressed the opening and closing ceremonies of the symposium. He thanked the specialists and scholars for attending the symposium and introduced SCUT’s recent progress in discipline construction and the Guangzhou International Campus. He pointed out that South China Institute of Geotechnical Engineering is an important component of the Guangzhou International Campus and has an important influence on the development of the discipline of civil engineering, “Double Tops” construction and the Belt and Road Strategies.

Professor Niu Fujun, vice-president of South China Institute of Geotechnical Engineering introduced construction plan of “South China Institute of Geotechnical Engineering” including the significance, guideline, target, research direction, equipment and team construction.

7 specialists and scholars debriefed the introduction of construction plan of “South China Institute of Geotechnical Engineering”, reviewed project brief and visit the project site. They pointed out that the construction plan was feasible, the target was accurate, the research direction was clear and the team construction, budget and equipment plan were reasonable. South China Institute of Geotechnical Engineering was helpful for improving the level of civil engineering and construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.

South China Institute of Geotechnical Engineering will be composed of 10 laboratories. Its guideline is to service to the major engineering construction and the Belt and Road Strategies though a series of integrative, specialized geotechnical engineering tests and theories of computing and design. Its target is to develop into a world-leading geoscience research center and engineering center though the study of basic theory and service for national development and infrastructure
