18-19 July, 2016, 24 students of the Innovation class (Grade 2014) of Engineering Mechanics, led by Ms Lezhen and Prof. Jiong Wang, visited the Hongkong Polytechnic University, the Hongkong City University and the Hongkong University. The object of this visit includes the interaction with the prestigious Hongkong universities and understanding on the mode of higher education system in Hongkong. The visit broadens the international view of the students and their knowledge on the current progress of research, which helps to lay a foundation for their study in the postgraduate stage.
The Hongkong Polytechnic University is located near Hung Hom station, a spot of public transportation junction. The Hongkong Polytechnic University has eight schools, among which the school of Civil Engineering and Environments is ranked as top 1 in Hongkong in the aspect of the paper publication and citation. The students were welcomed by the staffs in the Hongkong Polytechnic University, who introduced the state-of-the-art electronic fabrics. They also have a deep discussion about the study and life in the university.

The Hongkong City University is a small size college with stylish buildings, which makes a modern atmosphere in the campus. The professors guided the students visit the largest wind tunnel in Asia and the Giuseppe Castiglione – Lang Shining New Media Art Exhibition in the Art Museum. He has an inspiring talk with the students in the aeromodelling studio about the issues they encountered.
The Hongkong University has gorgeous history with many celebrities. Dr Sun Yat-sen said “the Hongkong University is the place where my knowledge originated”. Some of Ailing Zhang’s famous novels are influenced by her experience in the Hongkong University. The Hongkong University concentrated continuously on the comprehensive education. The students have a stimulating interaction with the staffs and postgraduates working on the biomechanics about the cultural background, learning methodology and research experience.

This is a fruitful visit. Although there is considerable differences in policy between the mainland and Hongkong, the universities in both of the two regions has the same target: deliver outstanding people to the society. During the visit, a deeper understanding on this philosophy is achieved, which benefit the future career of all the students in the class.
