Five doctors gave academic reports

On December 15th and 23th, five doctors, invited by SCUT, attended the young scholar forum by the school of civil engineering and transportation of SCUT.
Dr. Ning Chaolie gave presentation entitled “Probabilistic safety and loss assessment of RC structure”. In the presentation, Dr. Ning, based on the earthquake disaster model in Singapore, introduced the geological system including focus-field-structure-loss and its loss assessment framework. In addition, he gave the analysis on seismic demand and seismic structure modelling.
Dr. Shi Li introduced his postdoctoral research work on McGill University in Canada. The title of his presentation is “The static and dynamical interaction between beam and saturated half space”. He adopted the equivalent stiffness method combined with Fourier and Laplace transformation, and derived the analytical solution of the deflection settlement of the Euler beam under impulse point load and moving load.
Dr. He Jia gave report entitled "Smart structure research based on health monitoring and vibration control". He introduced his postdoctoral work in the Hong Kong polytechnic university. In the report, based on the extended kalman filter, he introduced a time-domain method for structural health monitoring and vibration control. In addition, he attempted to identify the parameters of linear structures and nonlinear restoring force under unknown excitation.
Dr. Hu Qing introduced her postdoctoral work in the Hong Kong city university entitled “Bayesian ballast damage detection with consideration of measurement and modelling uncertainty”. In the work, damage was detected by identifying the change of the natural frequency, caused by the stiffness drop. The difficult was to tackle measurement and modelling uncertainty.
Dr. Xia Liang, from France East of Paris university, gave the presentation entitled “nonlinear multiscale structure optimization design and relevant model reduction calculation strategy”. As traditional against homogeneous structure analysis and optimization design methods were not suitable for fiber composite material, metal alloys and other high performance of heterogeneous material problem, based on a nonlinear multiscale structure topology optimization design platform, he designed the material for fulfilling the requirements in 3D printing processing. By introducing the parallel computing, the efficiency in optimization was significantly increased. (Photo: Mr. Su Tu; Editor: Dr. Mu He-Qing. School of Civil Engineering and Transpiration.)
