On Dec 9, Prof. Yuan Ming Wu from Department of Engineering Mechanics of Peking University, went to SCUT for giving a seminar “The advantage in landslide prediction”. In his talk, the progress and detail of the related 973 national basic research project are given. More than 100 scholars and students from School of Civil engineering and Transportation attended the seminar.
Prof. Yuan introduced the software SAP84, developed by his research group, and its application in adaptive meshing problem of fracture. In addition, he gave the introduction of the experiment for landslide modelling currently conducted in the lab of the Chinese Academy of Science. Yuan Mingwu, Professor of Department of Engineering Mechanics of Peking University. 1955 – 1960, Department of Mathematics and Mechanics, Peking University, Bachelor. 1960-1964 Department of Mathematics and Mechanics, Peking University, Master. 1980-1982, University of California, Berkeley, Visiting Scholar (Supervisor: Edward L. Wilson). Prof. Yuan is the committee members of IACM, APACM, CCM, CVESSD. He won ICES award in 2000; IACM fellowship in 2004; the third price of national technology award; the first price of SECST etc. He is the principal investigator of 973 national basic research project for Peking University section.
