On 24th October, 2015, the students from civil engineering department including Guo Zhenhai, Fu Yifei, Pan Wenzhi, Huang Honghao and Tan Yingyao went to Guangxi University with our department lead teachers Ji Jing, Li Jing and Wang Heng chang, for participating the Fourth National Symposium on Civil Engineering Practice Teaching and the first prize conference of National Excellent Innovation and Practical Achievement Awards of Civil Engineering Majors. In the symposium, professor Ji, the representative of our school, gave the special report on ‘Practice and Exploration on English Immersion Education of Excellent Civil Engineers’. Two research projects including ‘The Materials and Process of Improving Asphalt Pavement Performance Based on Aggregate-Asphalt Interface Modification’ (Supervised by Yu Jiangmiao) and ‘Research on Ultra High Performance Concrete Cover and Pipeline’ (Supervised by Yang Yibo, Guo Wenying, Wang Hengchang and Ba Lingzhen) successfully finished the project presentation and defense.
During the presentation, our students, Guo Zhenhai and Fu Yifei, presented the achievements of the two projects to the professors. Their clear and well-organized presentations covered the research processes, group interaction and potential of the research for practice. During the defense part, the professors of the related fields from different universities raised a series questions, including many crucial questions. Nevertheless, our students, with clear mind and rapid reaction, gave the replies of satisfaction, which shows their specialty and professional in research.
It is reported that, National Excellent Innovation and Practical Achievement Awards of Civil Engineering Majors is one of the three nationwide competitions organized by the Colleges and Universities Steering Committee of Civil Engineering Majors (The other two are Structural Design Competition and Student Forum). This event is only held in those colleges and universities with national approval and professional assessment of civil engineering major. The number of projects recommended by each university is up to three only. The goal is to reward unit and individual of civil engineering undergraduate students with outstanding achievements and innovative practice, to promote the reform and innovation on cultivating patterns and teaching methods. It aims to develop innovative and practical ability of university students, to explore the personalized training mode of research study through research projects, to stimulate students' initiatives, enthusiasm and creativity.
45 projects of 19 universities are in the selection list of the reward of innovative products. With the strict evaluation by the professors, the list of 16 candidate projects have been determined. According to the selection criterion, the list of the first prize needs be determined after defense.
