Excellent civil engineering students of grade 2013 went to Macao to have academic exchange tour

On July 20th, supported by SCET and SCET alumni association in Macao, 42 excellent students of grade 2013 majoring in civil engineering went to Macao to have 4-day academic research under the guide of vice-president Wang, Mr. Zhao and Mr. Zhang and successfully accomplished the set goal.
During this academic exchange tour, students lived in the Cheng Yu Tung College of Macao University. On the first day they visited the history museum, WU Yee Sun library and central teaching district. Hengqin Campus of Macao University is unique which has broadened students’ minds by being exposed to foreign teaching atmosphere. Besides, they also visited the geotechnical lab, water conservancy lab and environment lab. After that, students from SCET exchanged academic ideas with students of MU.
On the second day, students went to visit the Macau branch office of ARUP, the holiday resort and Macao part of the in-construction Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. The chief engineer introduced the entertainment projects, the design and operating technology of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge to students, which included the hydrology effect, imbalanced sedimentation of building material and the organization in the operating site. Besides, he also answered different questions from students patiently.
On the third day, students went to visit the premise project of Macao building. Through interaction with engineers, students have been clear about the building construction and the new technology has broadened their minds.
On the last day, students had the opportunity to exchange ideas with the local outstanding engineers. Those engineers shared with students about the feelings and opinions of the construction, which provided many insights for students’ future careers. From this meeting, students realized that communication and coordination played important roles in successfully operating constructions. Students have learned a lot from the wonderful speeches and interactions
This academic exchange tour made students learn something from the real construction instead of textbooks, which helped them forge ahead to become outstanding engineers.
