Hosted by SCET and China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), China's Century Dream of Ships, an exhibition tour of historical records, took place at SCUT on the afternoon of March 26, 2015. Du Xiaoming, Chairperson of University Affairs Committee, Zhang Zhaoben, a director of CSSC, Chen Jinhai, former chairman of the board of Shanghai Jiangnan Shipyard, and Mai Rongzhi, chief engineer of Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited, were present at the opening ceremony. And Zhang Zhen-gang, SCUT vice president, attended the lecture named Dialogue with Belief on that evening. Prof. Su Cheng, assistant to the President, and relevant directors of Publicizing Division, the Youth League Committee (YLC) and SCET attended it.
The opening ceremony
Mr Du addressed at the opening ceremony. He said that the exhibition encouraged young teachers and students to carry on the greatness of the Chinese people after reminding them the hardship of China's national industry and the perseverance of elder generations by the showing of pictures and objectives. And he inspired the audiences to pursuit the dreams of ships, industries and ocean.
Listening to the explanation
As an important base of training technology talents of shipbuilding industry, SCUT has been a good talent provider for CSSC. And the two sides have long-term cooperation in many aspects during these years, such as the combination of market, education and research, the internship of students, and etc. Mr Du extended thanks to CSSC for its support to SCUT. He said, SCUT had developed into a talent pool with complete training system of undergraduates, graduates and doctors for Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering since the discipline was set up in the late 1950’s. And its development was attributed to SCUTers' constant struggle and also supports of agencies like CSSC and a large number of engineers. He pointed that, strategies of Ocean Power and Maritime Silk Road provided more opportunities for the development of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, and we should make more contribution to the development of ships and industry.
Students seeing exhibition
The exhibition showed the audience the development process of Shanghai Jiangnan Shipyard and ship industry through nearly 100 boards, objects, models and on-site interpretation, but also presented the strong strength and better future of the national shipbuilding industry.
Spot of the lecture
On that evening, Dialogue with Belief -- Celebration of the 150th anniversary of Shanghai Jiangnan Shipyard, CSSC which witnessed the origin and development of China's national industry, a lecture was held at SHAW Building of Science. Based on the development of Chinese national industry and that of Shanghai Jiangnan Shipyard in the past 150 year, distinguished guests talked with teachers and students about carrying forward the spirit of Jiangnan Shipyard, deepening SCUT-CSSC cooperation, and contributing to national shipbuilding development, Ocean Power and China's dream.
