50 students and teachers of Marine and Offshore Technology, and Mechanical Engineering of Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore visited SCUT recently. SCET students and teachers of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering welcomed those of Marine and Offshore Technology, and made exchange of teaching and scientific research with them.
Visitors watched the introduction videos of ship resistance at pond, ship propulsion, self-propelled ship model and processing of data experiment, as well as the operation of the experiment of towing and wave at labs. They were impressed by the good teaching and experiment conditions at SCET.
During the visiting exchange, a teacher of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering introduced the goals, requirement of teaching, classroom and experimental teaching, extracurricular activities and student organizations. History and Current Situation of China's Shipbuilding Industry Development, and Opportunities and Challenges of offshore oil and gas industry Faced by China and Guangdong, two lectures were made by the director of the Department, introducing the prospect of China's shipbuilding and marine engineering industry from a macro point.
The visitors appreciated the good teaching and research environment at SCUT, and some students expressed wishes to study here in the future.
It is said that undergraduates of Marine and Offshore Technology of Ngee Ann Polytechnic would visit development and construction of bases of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at Asia and Europe once. And in recent three years, SCUT is one of the visiting places in Asia together with relevant design agencies, research institutions, and shipbuilding and port enterprises in Guangzhou. The visitors will visit the local ship and ocean engineering research, design agencies, and shipbuilding companies at Hamburg, Germany.
