International Summer School on Emerging Engineering 2025 Opens at GZIC
On July 7, South China University of Technology (SCUT) launched its second International Summer School on Emerging Engineering at its state-of-the-art Guangzhou International Campus. The prestigious program brings together 136 elite students and scholars from 25 globally top-ranked institutions, including the University of Cambridge and Imperial College London, for an intensive two-week academic and cultural immersion.
SCUT President Tang Hongwu delivered the keynote address at the opening ceremony, emphasizing the university's leadership role in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area's higher education landscape. As a pioneer in engineering education, SCUT remains dedicated to fostering global academic collaboration while serving as a gateway to Chinese cultural heritage, President Tang remarked. We expect participants will not only advance their technical expertise but also emerge as ambassadors for international understanding through authentic cultural engagement.
This year's summer school features an interdisciplinary curriculum centered on six next-generation engineering fields including artificial intelligence and biomedical engineering. Distinguished faculty from SCUT and partner institutions will lead the academic components, while the cultural program showcases Guangdong's rich heritage through traditional lion dance performances, Lingnan cultural walking tours and corporate visits to Fortune Global 500 enterprises.
Michael Preziosi, a delegate from Stevens Institute of Technology, expressed his admiration for Guangzhou's dynamic innovation ecosystem. Professor Ahmed Mehaoua of Université Sorbonne Paris Cité reflected on his decade-long collaboration with SCUT, noting the university's transformative progress in global engagement.
The summer school will run till July 20, featuring additional academic salons and cultural exchange activities. The opening ceremony attracted extensive coverage from leading media outlets including China Daily and Guangdong Television, underscoring SCUT's growing prominence in international education.
