On the afternoon of April 23rd, 2021, the School carried out the theme education activity of Understanding China -- Telling the Story of Joining the Party and Passing on the Tradition of Revolution in the lecture hall of Room 215. The event was organized by the branch of the School’s cares for the next generation working committee. Xiao Jin, retired cadre of South China University of Technology and senior professor of the School of Environment and Energy, was invited as the keynote speaker to share his story of joining the party  face-to-face with the undergraduate Party members of the school. Chen Hangyu, secretary of the school’s Party committee and director of the branch of the School’s cares for the next generation working committee, Wu Yaohua, deputy secretary of the school’s Party committee and deputy director of the branch of the cares for the next generation working committee, some comrades of the school office, instructors and some student party members attended the symposium.

Professor Xiao Jin first made a report on the theme of keep the party and the people in mind, and delivered speeches from two aspects: obeying the needs of the organization and accomplishing the duties  and “giving suggestions to young people to learn how to behave and work”. He shared the story about how he changed from an ordinary student to a qualified Communist Party member under the leadership of the Party; as a party member, how to set an example and demonstrate the original aspiration and founding mission of CPC members with practical actions. He was a little hesitated when first appointed to get involved in a certain work. By working hard, honing will, improving ideological consciousness, holding the belief of “the interests of the Party and the people are above all, and individual interests should sought after the interests of the Party and the people, and seeking truth from facts, he was able to follow the Party’s needs resolutely and finally received more affirmation and praise. He has always kept the Party, the people, the responsibility and the discipline in mind, and seen selfless dedication to the cause of the Party and the people as the highest pursuit of life. At last, he expressed sincere wishes to the students with the quotation of Marx, Chairman Mao and General Secretary Xi Jinping. He hoped that the students would bear in mind the instruction of the great revolutionary man, have lofty ideals, do not humiliate the mission of the times, practice the spirit of South China University of Technology, and strive to become qualified contributor and reliable successors of the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

After the report, Professor Xiao Jin had an active exchange with the participating teachers and students. He gave detailed answers to the students' questions one by one. At the meeting, deputy secretary Wu Yaohua also shared two poems by Professor Xiao Jin and encouraged students to learn from Professor Xiao Jin.

As a member of the Communist Party of China, Professor Xiao Jin showed the responsibility of being a Chinese Communist Party member with his own experience, which encouraged the students and delivered benefit to them. Now Professor Xiao Jin is 91 years old, but he is still hale and hearty. In the past, he listened to the party's command and worked well, now he relaxed his mind and lived well. As the university’s student Party members in the new era, students have said that when encountering new opportunities and challenges, they will bear in mind Professor Xiao Jin's instruction, forge ahead with great efforts, and strive to become a qualified successor to the cause of building socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Introduction to the keynote speaker:

Xiao Jin. Born in March, 1930, Xiao Jin is a retired professor, doctoral supervisor and retired cadre of the School of Environment and Energy of South China University of Technology. He has the honor to enjoy the special government allowance of the State Council, and have won 8 scientific and technological achievement awards at the State Scientific and Technological Commission, provincial and ministerial levels and 5 invention patents. After retirement, he is keen on the work of the cares for the next generation working committee and serves as a member of the Teacher Report Group of the committee. He had won the honorary titles of advanced individual in the work of the next generation under the education system of Guangdong Province and advanced worker in the work of the next generation by South China University of Technology.
