On December 20, 2020, the academic committee meeting of 'Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Solid Waste Pollution Control and Resource Reuse' was held in Conference Room B4-308 of School of Environment at the University Town Campus by combining online and offline methods. Attendees included Huang Jiangkang, Director of Guangdong Provincial Laboratory and Platform Base Office, Zhu Min, Vice President of South China University of Technology, Ling Gui and Ouyang Guozhen, Deputy Directors of the Science and Technology Association of the Science and Technology Department of SCUT, Academician Zhao Jincai, Director of the Academic Committee of the Key Laboratory, Academician Chai Liyuan, Associate Director of the Academic Committee of the Key Laboratory, and Professor Dai Xiaohu and other committee members, 23 members of the Key Laboratory and some graduate students.

The conference was chaired by Academician Zhao Jincai, Director of the Academic Committee of Key Laboratory. At the meeting, Huang Jiangkang, Director of Guangdong Provincial Laboratory and Platform Base Office, Zhu Min, Vice President of South China University of Technology, and Ye Daiqi, Dean of School of Environment and Energy delivered important speeches. Professor Lin zhang, director of the key laboratory, reported the construction content, research direction and development goal of the key laboratory. Professor Shi Zhenqing and Professor Zhu Nengwu, deputy directors of the Key Laboratory, reported the latest research progress and achievements of basic research on solid waste and electronic solid waste treatment and disposal. Academician Zhao Jincai, Professor Dai Xiaohu, Professor Zhao Dongye, Professor Wu Yufeng, Professor Qian Guangren, Professor Sun Yifei, Professor Yang Jiakuan and other academic committee members put forwarded a number of forward-looking suggestions on the research direction and development of the key laboratory. Senior engineer Fu Yonggao and Professor Wei Chaohai also put forward valuable opinions on the development of key laboratories with their own characteristics. Finally, academician Zhao Jincai pointed out that in the future, the Laboratory shall cooperate with international and domestic first-class teams, focus on the national key and major needs, refine the scientific issues, carry out extensive cooperation, and build the Key Laboratory into a domestic and even international first-class solid waste key laboratory at an early date.

Professor Lin zhang, professor Su Xintai, professor Zhu Nengwu, professor Yan Keyou, professor Deng Hong, professor Cheng Jianhua and other members of the key laboratory actively contributed their ideas to the construction and development of the laboratory, and had a serious discussion on the future development direction.

The Key Laboratory of Solid Waste is a key laboratory approved by Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology in February 2020. At present, the laboratory is composed of 23 experts, professors and young scholars of the School. Relying on School of Environment and Energy of South China University of Technology, the laboratory is equipped with the following research directions: interaction properties of solid waste environment and resource, principle and technology of industrial solid waste reduction and harmlessness, principle and technology of organic solid waste recycling, principle and technology of consumer waste high-value reuse, solid waste resources recycling, and new energy materials development. The Key Laboratory of Solid Waste will strive to become one of the teaching, research, promotion centers for cultivating senior talents and undertaking national and local key scientific research projects in the field of solid waste treatment and recycling in Guangdong Province.
