[Biography]

Dr. Jianfeng Lou has been Chairman and President of BASF Greater China since January 2022, with overall responsibility for BASF's extensive production operations, business development and R&D innovation in China. Greater China is currently BASF Global

The second largest market. Prior to that, Lou was President of BASF's Global Advanced Materials and Systems Research and Development. He focuses on the layout of research and development in key markets around the world, is customer-oriented, focuses on sustainability, and drives business development with future-oriented innovation. He focused on the booming Asian market demand and further expanded BASF's research and development capabilities in Asia. From 2015 to 2019, Lou served as Senior Vice President of BASF, responsible for the company's global Battery Materials business unit. He led the team to develop, produce and sell lithium cathode materials in major regions of the world to meet the needs of the rapidly developing new energy vehicle market.

Jianfeng Lou joined BASF in New Jersey in 2005 and has been responsible for the strategic planning and business management of various business units of BASF for 10 years, covering chemical intermediates, catalysts, polyurethanes and characteristic materials businesses, accumulating rich industry experience and keen business insight. Born in Dongyang, Zhejiang Province, Lou holds a PhD in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor's degree in Chemical engineering from Zhejiang University.

[Abstract]

In a rapidly changing world, key drivers such as carbon neutrality, circular economy and energy transition are shaping the future of the chemical industry. These factors represent both challenges and opportunities for the industry as a whole. Today, research and development in the field of materials and processes for sustainable development is crucial.

Dr. Jianfeng Lou will share how innovation can drive a sustainable future for the chemical industry. First of all, we will introduce BASF's development in China, its emphasis on innovation and its collaborative innovation with academic partners. It will then focus on how BASF has made efforts in two aspects of sustainable development and circular economy, through integrated systems, methane dry reforming, carbon dioxide hydrogenation to methanol, gas fermentation technology, methane pyrolysis to hydrogen, polymer material recycling, chemical cycle biomass balance, biodegradability, carbon dioxide hydrogenation. Technologies such as innovative material solutions for the new energy sector achieve sustainable development goals.

With innovative practices and technological innovation, the chemical industry can not only reduce its carbon footprint, but also contribute to the green transformation of all aspects of society.
