Biography
Dr. Wei Zeng was born in Chongqing, China. He studied organic chemistry and received his bachelor, master, Ph.D. degrees at Sichuan University in 1994, 2000 and 2003, respectively. In 2004 he joined Professor V. W. W. Yam's lab at The University of Hong Kong where he worked as a Research Assistant on the synthesis of novel aza-thia crowned organometallic complexes. In 2005 he joined Professor C. Melander's group at The North Carolina State University where he worked as a postdoctorate on the DNA cleavage performance and the mechanism of action of diazobenzofluorene natural products. In 2006 he began another postdoctorate in Professor S. R. Chemler's lab at The State University of New York at Buffalo where he carried out Cu(II)- catalyzed asymmetric carboamination and the total synthesis of natural products. Dr. Zeng joined The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at South China University of Technology as a full Professor in 2008, his research interests involve novel organic synthetic methodologies covering functional group transformations, metal-mediated chemistry, and asymmetric catalysis. He was a recipient of New Century Excellent Talents in University, Ministry of Education, China (2009).
