time: 2025-07-08

From June 19th to 21st, the red classic revolutionary story of Zhou Wenyong and Chen Tiujun was performed in the form of an opera at the Guangzhou Grand Theatre, with three performances. This was the second performance of the original opera The Wedding on the Execution Ground by the Guangzhou Grand Theatre, following its premiere last year. It was staged on the occasion of the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

As a Guangzhou-originated opera, The Wedding on the Execution Ground has brought the red culture historical materials out of the historical archives. Since its premiere at the Guangzhou Grand Theatre in February last year, the opera has received widespread praise and attention. The emotional Guangzhou revolutionary story, presented for the first time in the form of an opera at the location where it occurred, not only spreads the heroic stories of Guangzhou through artistic works, but also makes breakthroughs and innovations in exploring the expression of red-themed operas. The opera was one of the activities of the Hero Flowers Bloom in the Heroic City Guangzhou Series of Activities for Inheriting and Promoting Red Culture organized by the Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, and it once sparked a red viewing craze, with an attendance rate as high as 87.7%.

The premiere not only achieved success in artistic expression, but also had a positive impact in multiple dimensions such as red culture dissemination, humanistic and historical education, and the expansion of cultural appeal. This opera The Wedding on the Execution Ground returned with honors, supported by the 2023 Guangzhou Artistic Masterpieces Special Fund, presenting to the audience the profound red cultural heritage and artistic innovation strength of Guangzhou. It not only enriched the connotation of Guangzhou original works but also was a deep exploration and effective enhancement of the local artistic creation strength.

This round of performances was scheduled for the eve of July 1st, attracting many opera enthusiasts to come. The opera venue also became a new hotspot for party activities. Nearly a hundred party organizations and trade union groups came to watch the performances. They all took photos at the Plum Blossom Blooming, Heroes Return photo spot in the front hall of the Opera Hall of Guangzhou Grand Theatre, and said, This was a very meaningful night. It sparked the resonance and reflection of the younger generation towards red culture and provided new ideas for the innovation of party building.
