Through the systematic teaching of subject knowledge andpractical training, the program comprehensively improves students' academiclevel, professional skills and comprehensive quality, while also focusing on cultivatingstudents' sense of social responsibility and spirit of innovation, so as toenable them to play a professional role in the field of music and relatedindustries, and to become a triple-creative, triple-force typecomposite artistic talents who can promote the development of music and cultureand satisfy the diversified needs of the society. ”
Cultivation Objective 1:To systematically master the basic knowledge of music history and theory,technical theory of composition, and music performance skills, and to build acomplete knowledge system of music discipline.
Cultivation Objective 2: Throughsystematic training combining theory and practice, to acquire the basic abilityof music research, analysis and creation, and to be able to professionallyanalyze, interpret and write about musical works and phenomena.
Cultivation Objective 3: Cultivatethree-force talents with excellent learning power, thinkingpower, and action power, and shape the three-creativequalities of innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship. Thethree creative qualities of innovation, creativity andentrepreneurship are shaped to realize the all-round development of studentsin terms of morality, intelligence, physicality, aesthetics and labor.
Cultivation Objective 4: Toequip students after graduation with the ability to engage in teaching,research and creative work in schools and professional groups, or to becompetent in music editing, production and organization in traditional media,new media, publishing institutions and cultural institutions.

1. Engineering Knowledge:becapable of applying mathematics, natural sciences, computing, engineeringfundamentals and professional knowledge to solve complex engineering problems.2. Problem Analysis:be able to apply the basic principles ofmathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences to identify, express andanalyze complex engineering problems through literature research, and considerthe requirements of sustainable development to obtain effective conclusions.3. Programprofile:
The major of Musicologyis a research and analysis-oriented major under the first-level discipline ofMusic and Dance, with an emphasis on creation. With the core of music theoryand history research, it relies on the multidisciplinary resource advantages ofhumanities, social sciences, arts and technology of a comprehensive universityto build up a systematic and cross-field curriculum system. At the same time, themajor makes full use of the music creation and performance practice platform ofthe College of Fine Arts, and combines the characteristic resources of theCantonese Opera Inheritance Base, the Contemporary Music Creation Center, andthe Electronic Music Laboratory to carry out projects integrating theory andpractice, such as the digitalization research of traditional music and thecross-media music creation practice. Students can participate in academiclectures, research projects, cultural exhibitions and performances, and areexposed to cutting-edge academic dynamics and industry practices. Upongraduation, students will not only have solid music theory background, but alsomaster interdisciplinary research methodology and practical skills, and will beable to work in various fields such as university teaching, academic research,cultural publishing, music editing, art curation, etc., which is an importanttalent force to promote the development of music theory and culturalinheritance and innovation. . There are 12 full-time teachers in the musicologyprogram, including 4 professors, 5 associate professors and 2 lecturers, andmany of them have been awarded the Golden Bell Award, WenhuaAward, Lu Xun Literature and Art Award, GuangdongProvincial Literature and Art Award, Guangdong ProvincialLiterature and Art Award, Guangdong Provincial Literature and ArtAward and Guangdong Provincial Literature and Art Award. Manyteachers have won national and provincial awards including Golden BellAward, Wenhua Award, Lu Xun Prize for Literature andArt and Guangdong Province Philosophy and Social ScienceOutstanding Achievement Award. The School of Arts can provide acomprehensive, professional and detailed teaching ecology, as well as a good, convenientand diversified practice environment for musicology students.

5. Second Classroom Activities
“Second Classroom” Activities are comprised of two parts, HumanitiesQuality Education and Innovative Ability Cultivation.
(1) Basic Requirements of Humanities Quality Education
Besides gaining course credits listed in one’s subject teachingcurriculum, a student is required to participate in extracurricular activitiesof Humanities Quality Education based on one’s interest, acquiring no less thanseven credits.Mental Health Education for CollegeStudents (2 credits), National Security Education (1 credit), and Career Planningfor College Students (2 credits) are offered in an online format and areincluded in the second-classroom credits for Humanities Quality Education.
(2) Basic Requirements of Innovative Ability Cultivation
Besides gaining course credits listed in one’s subject teachingcurriculum, a student is required to participate in any one of the followingactivities: National Undergraduate Training Programs for Innovation andEntrepreneurship, Guangdong Undergraduate Training Programs for Innovation andEntrepreneurship, Student Research Program (SRP), One-hundred-steps InnovativeProgram, or any other extracurricular activities of Innovative AbilityCultivation that last a certain period of time (e.g. subject contests, academic lectures), acquiring no less than four credits.
