Prof. Mitsuhiro Shibayama, the Director of Neutron Science Laboratory, the Institute for Solid State Physics in the University of Tokyo visited South China Advanced Institute for Soft Mater of Science and Technology (AISMST), SCUT and gave a short course to the postgraduates from December 9th to 12th, 2019. He shared theoretical knowledge of neutron science and frontier of neutron characterization technique to our faculties and students.

During his visit, Prof. Shibayama delivered two lectures titled “An Overview of Neutron Science” and “Small angle neutron scattering” respectively. He introduced basic theory, measurements and facilities of neutron, as well as basic theory of small angle neutron scattering, application of neutron scattering in dilute systems and concentrated/bulk systems.

Prof. Shibayama’s research interest are polymer physics of gels, block copolymers, polymer blends; experiments, theory, and instrumentation of neutron scattering; polymer dynamics with dynamic light scattering. He is the leader and has great influence in the field of Neutron Science. He is the Director of Neutron Science Laboratory, the Institute for Solid State Physics in the University of Tokyo. He won the Award of the Society of Polymer Science, Japan in 2010, Paper Award, Physical Society of Japan in 2012, and the Award of the Japanese Society for Neutron Science in 2014. He is a world-renowned scholar in the field of characterization technique and has made great influence in the field.
