On September 9th to 10th, Prof. Virgil Percec, from University of Pennsylvania, visited South China Advance Institute for Soft Matter Science and Technology (AISMST) and had a two-day academic lecture about the latest research related to self-assembly of dendrimers. During this period, Prof. Percec also had a two-day academic exchange with researchers at AISMST.

This report attracted hundreds of participants at AISMST. On the first day, Prof. Percec shared their latest progress in self-assembly of dendrimers. Based on the design and construction of complex molecules, macromolecules, or supermolecules, their group have successfully prepared water separation membranes with excellent properties. The next day, Prof. Percec exhibited their latest progress in the field of artificial cell membranes using amphiphilic dendrimers. A series of amphiphilic dendritic macromolecules were successfully synthesized by the means of rational molecular design and screening. Interestingly, such molecules could self-assemble in a solution to form one cell membrane-like structure. Besides, these macromolecules could be further mixed with human cells for constructing mixed membranes. These artificial cell membranes exhibited excellent transfer performances for bio-macromolecules such as proteins via surface modification of membranes.

Prof. Percec shared lots of stories in their works and expressed his own understandings for scientific research, which inspired many studentsto a certain extent. “We are so happy to have a chance to attend this lecture from Prof. Percec.” “The content of this report is quite rich, in terms of depth and breadth, and worth learning.” Many students expressed.
