On December 1st, some precious guests from the Center for Advanced Low-dimension Materials of Donghua university, Associate Directors Yang Shuguang and Qiu Dengmei, Office Director Zhu Xiaoxu, Researcher Wang Yi and Doctors Liu Jixuan and Weili, visited ISAM of SCUT for an exchange meeting. Professor Yin Suhong, Deputy Dean of School of Materials Science and Engineering of SCUT, Professor Xia Ruidong, Deputy Dean of ISAM and Dong Xuehui, Researcher of SSouth China Advanced Institute for Soft Matter Science and Technology attended the meeting.
Deputy Dean Yin extended a warm welcome to the guests and made a brief introduction to ISAM, focusing on the application and preparation of its establishment. She said that, as one of the 13 “Promoting Plan of International Model Schools in Colleges and Universities” trial schools approved by National Bureau of Foreign Experts and Ministry of Education, ISAM, on the basis of School of Materials Science and Engineering, has received strong support on education and management. What’s more, on the occasion of the Guangzhou International Campus of SCUT, ISAM and other nine schools of SCUT would have better and more communication with foreign schools on education and scientific studies. Professor Yin shared the experience, from the preparation of the application to the formal enrollment and then to the actual teaching management process, to the visitors. She also admitted that, through exploration, ISAM was committed to the internationalization of running ideas, management mechanism and training mode.
After that, Deputy Dean Xia made detailed introduction to the specific works of ISAM, including objectives and plans, developments and achievements, fund and establishment. She insisted that ISAM not only improved students’ competitiveness in international field and strategic creative sense, but also provided the students an English teaching environment. Professors and scholars from world famous universities such as Oxford University, Cambridge University, UC Santa Barbara were invited to share the most advanced research progress and knowledge on materials. So far, quite a few undergraduates have joined the research programme organized by teachers to lay a foundation for their future scientific research.
Associate Director Yang expressed his appreciation for the detailed introduction of the successful establishment of ISAM by Professor Yin and Professor Xia. He hoped that, on the basis of their distinctive and dominant disciplines, an international school with the characteristics of Donghua University would be set up soon in the future.
