2022 Spin Chemistry Development Strategy Seminar: Focusing on the Mechanism and Regulation of Spin-related Chemical Processes
发布时间:2022-10-17

Recently, a seminar on Spin Chemistry Development Strategy was successfully held, hosted by the Spin-X Institute of South China University of Technology (SCUT) with the participation of the Department of Chemical Sciences of the National Nature Science Foundation of China (NSFC). Professor Gao Song was the chairman of the seminar, and Professor Hou Yanglong was the executive chairman of the seminar. More than 60 participants attended the seminar, including leaders of the NSFC and experts and scholars in the field of spin chemistry from all over China.

At the beginning of the seminar, Fu Xuefeng, from NSFC, presided over the opening ceremony, and Gao Song, Director of the Spin-X Institute of SCUT, and Yang Junlin, Executive Deputy Director of the Department of Chemical Sciences, NSFC, delivered speeches.

Yang Junlin pointed out that the development of spin-related mechanisms of action and regulatory means are important for the development of the scientific system in the areas of synthetic chemistry, materials preparation, energy conversion and utilization, and other areas of major national needs, to enhance the ability of technological originality.

Gao Song indicated that the research on spin and chemical reactions is gradually emerging, with a view to bringing more attention to molecular magnetism research and promoting the development of related research and theory through the development of new detection methods and techniques.

The seminar invited 20 renowned experts in the field of spin chemistry from 16 universities and research institutions, including Peking University, University of Science and Technology of China, and Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry of Chinese Academy of Sciences, to give presentations on the theme of Mechanism and regulation of spin-related chemical processes and conduct discussions focusing on the four sub-themes: Spin mechanism in synthetic chemistry, spin-regulated catalysis and synthesis, spin mechanism and regulation in energy conversion and storage, molecular spin materials mechanism and application. The development process, current situation, research hotspots and difficulties, as well as future development opportunities and challenges in the field of spin chemistry were analyzed in depth.

This seminar is the first academic seminar in the direction of spin chemistry held since the establishment of the Spin-X Institute of SCUT. By bringing together experts and scholars with outstanding academic achievements in the field of spin chemistry to make presentations and discussions, we will further deepen the knowledge of the role of electronic spin states in chemical reactions and explore more research directions, so as to promote the better development of spin chemistry as an emerging crossover field.
