2019 Undergraduate Overseas Summer Programs:Visiting to National University of Singapore

School of Software Engineering has long histories in its Undergraduate Overseas Summer Programs, for broadening our students’ global academic visions, cultivating their cross-cultural communication abilities and innovation practice abilities, and improving our international education cooperation level. From July 15, 2019 to August 5, 2019, a group of 33 students have took park in a special training summer program of Big Data and Data Visualization offered by National University of Singapore (NUS).

        

Group members

The program is a course that emphasis on team-working and practice skill, consist of lecture, discussion and a final project competition session. During the program, our students also shared their lives experience with local students and tried to understand the current status of Singapore and learned its culture.

The program was well organized by experienced lecturers and assistants into Group Project Setting. The lectures all delivered in English, covering key concepts, and several tools. Project topics selected include “Data analysis and visualization of shared bicycle use in Los Angeles”, “Data analysis and visualization of Google Play Store” and “Data analysis and visualization of course and age preference data on EDX MOOC platform”, etc. Our student worked hard with tutors in data collection, data cleaning, data modeling and analysis, data report design and visualization topics, and gained a lot knowledge and skills.

     

Lecture and Discussion

Off-class discussions were excellent ways for students to work with their professors, for the final work competition. And it is a true happy experience of learning for practicing.

        Although the 20-day study visit is short, students have gained professional knowledge and skills, broadened their horizons, increased their knowledge, experienced different cultural and social concepts, and made new plans for life development through active efforts. At the same time, the students also established a friendship with the students and teachers of NUS, enjoyed a wonderful and unforgettable time together, and won the praise of the teachers and students of NUS.
