报告摘要:

Nature uses water-repellent surfaces for millions of years, giving inspiration for developing synthetic water-repellent coatings. Liquid-like surfaces provide low droplet friction due to dynamics of molecular surface layers. Droplet friction is low on superhydrophobic surfaces because the droplet is essentially supported on an air layer trapped between microscopic roughness features. Here I present our latest advance in creating the world’s most slippery surface.

Contact angle goniometry is the most commonly used method for wetting characterization, however the inaccuracy of the measurement is surprisingly large especially for superhydrophobic surfaces. Here I describe the challenges in surface wetting characterization and present several force-based methods to directly probe droplet adhesion and droplet friction.
