报告摘要:

   Natech accidents (cascading events characterized by technological scenarios triggered by the impact of natural events on facilities) are a growing concern for industrial sites in areas prone to natural hazards. The need to reduce the vulnerability of industrial sites from natural events is evident both looking at the huge negative impact that the impact of natural events had in the past on industrial areas, and in the framework of adaptation to climate change that requires to reduce the vulnerability of industrial areas to climate-related natural hazards. In this presentation, a comprehensive approach to the quantitative assessment of risk due to Natech scenarios will be presented, including the specific role of safety barriers in risk control and mitigation. The role and influence of safety barrier degradation on risk figures will be specifically addressed. Data on the expected safety barrier probability of failure on demand and effectiveness will be discussed. The effect of safety barrier degradation will be presented, in the framework of an improved approach to the protection of industrial facilities and chemical clusters from Natech risk.


报告人简介

   Professor Valerio Cozzani is the Director of M.Sc. Program in Offshore Engineering, at University of Bologna, Italy, the Chair of the ESRA Technical Committee on Chemical and Process Industry, and the President of the Scientific Committee of CISAP Conference. He is the Associate Editor of Safety Science, and the Guest Editor of Reliability Engineering and System Safety and Journal of Loss Prevention in the Process Industry.

   Professor Valerio Cozzani has several years of research experience in the fields of safety and sustainability of industrial processes, loss prevention and environmental technologies. The specific topics of his research activity are the development of innovative methodologies and models for hazard and risk analysis, and the quantitative assessment of accidental scenarios triggered by external hazard factors as domino effects and Natech scenarios.
