报告人简介:

Prof. Chin Pan is now a chair professor and head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the City University of Hong Kong. Before joining CityU in February 2018, Prof. Pan was a Tsing Hua distinguished professor of the Department of Engineering and System Science and the Institute of Nuclear Engineering and Science at the National Tsing Hua University (NTHU). Prof. Pan received his BS degree in nuclear engineering from NTHU in 1979, MS and Ph.D. degrees in nuclear engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 1983 and 1985, respectively. Before joining NTHU as an associate professor in February 1986, Prof. Pan was a visiting research assistant professor of the Department of Nuclear Engineering of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for a short period. He became a full professor at NTHU since August 1990. He served as the chairman of the Department of Engineering and System Science of NTHU from February 2001 to January 2004 and the founding Director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Research from December 2003 to July 2008.  Prof. Pan was the Dean of the College of Nuclear Science from August 2005 to July 2011.  He served as the chairman of the Advisory committee of Nuclear Safety in the Atomic Energy Council from October 2008 to December, 2017 and remains as member now.  He was the chief principal investigator (Director) of the Low Carbon Energy Center, a center of excellence at NTHU funded by the Ministry of Education through the Plan to Develop World-Class Universities and Top-Notch Research Centersfrom April 2011 To December 2017. Prof. Pan was president of Chung-Hwa Nuclear Society from January 2012 to January 2018.  Prof. Pans research activities for the past two decades have been in the areas of two-phase flow, boiling heat transfer and energy engineering. Prof. Pan has published a book entitledBoiling Heat Transfer and Two-Phase Flowin Chinese, about 90 Journal papers and 130 conference proceedings or presentations.  He received an outstanding research award from the National Science Council of Taiwan in 1998 and three excellent research awards earlier.

报告摘要:

Two-phase flow in microchannels can potentially provide high heat transfer area density as well as high heat transfer coefficient enabling many possible applications. We have been working on two-phase flow and heat transfer in microchannels for nearly two decades. We first reported that the slug bubble grows exponentially in microchannel with a theoretical model. We first demonstrated that the so-called explosive boiling in microchannel is actually ultra-fast nucleate boiling. We first presented the stability boundary on the plane of inlet subcooling number versus phase change number, as that for an ordinary-sized channel. We first studied experimentally boiling heat transfer in divergent microchannels and revealed that a divergent design may stabilize the boiling heat transfer and enhance boiling heat transfer. Selected recent studies in our laboratory will be presented in this talk, including adiabatic two-phase flow in uniform, converging and diverging microchannels, two-phase flow due to chemical reactions in microchannels, stability and convective boiling in microchannels, convective boiling of binary mixture in microchannels, gas-assisted boiling in microchannels, and integration of microchannel evaporator and methanol reformer.
