报告摘要:

Development of polymer nanocomposites conformed as foams is growing field of research in view to develop new materials for multifunctional applications, from biomaterials for tissue engineering to core materials for insulating sandwich panels in automobile, railway and aerospace vehicles. Within this topic, the use of biopolymers represents a way to incorporate non-toxic and renewable characteristics in the resulting materials, which also implies an added value from the environmental point of view. Moreover, biopolymers displaying biocompatible and biodegradable properties in combination with clays (smectites, vermiculite, sepiolite, halloysite…) give rise to functional bionanocomposite foams for a large variety of application such as insulator and fire resistance panels, water remediation, drug delivery or support of bioactive species for biocatalysis and electrochemical devices. The incorporation of clay nanoparticles may improve properties such as toughness, strength, barrier properties and thermal stability and also procure other characteristics (e.g., active centers for adsorption and reaction), contributing also to produce porous hierarchical organization in the resulting systems.
