In order to increase the cooperation and understanding between the people of China and other countries, develop outstanding international talent and improve the perception of China’s higher education, South China University of Technology (SCUT) is opening application for full-time postgraduate studies under the 2008 Chinese government scholarship program.
Ⅰ. ELIGIBILITY
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals and be in good health.
2. Education background and age limit:
- Applicants for Master degree studies must have bachelor degree and be under the age of 35.
- Applicants for Doctoral degree studies must have master degree and be under the age of 40.
Ⅱ. DETAILS OF THE SCHOLARSHIP (FULL SCHOLARSHIP)
1. Exempt from registration fee, tuition fee, fee for laboratory experiment, fee for internship, fee for basic learning materials and accommodation;
- Master degree students: CNY 30,400~36,800 yuan per academic year (approx.)
- Doctoral degree students: CNY 41,600~43,200 yuan per academic year (approx.)
2. Living allowance and a one-off settlement subsidy;
3. Fee for outpatient medical service, Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Benefit Plan for International Students in China;
4. Monthly living allowance:
- Master degree students: CNY 1,100 yuan
- Doctoral degree students: CNY 1,400 yuan
Ⅲ. NUMBER OF SHCOLARSHIPS:
25 scholarships for the academic year of 2008/2009
Ⅳ. APPLICATION PROCEDURE
1. Applicants should send the Application Form and other required materials to the Admission Office of the School of International Education (SIE). Application Form could be downloaded from www.csc.edu.cn.
2. The Admission Office will forward the application materials of qualified applicants to relevant schools and may receive the assessed and commented materials within allocated time.
3. The Scholarship Council of SCUT will short-list the qualified applicants for granting the scholarship.
4. SCUT will report the results to the Chinese Scholarship Council for final approval.
5. The results will be publicized on the website of SIE in July.
6. The Admission Office will send the Admission Notice and Visa application form (JW201) to successful applicants by the end of July.
Ⅴ. APPLICATION MATERIALS
The applicants must fill in and provide the following materials truly and correctly (in duplicate).
1. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship in Chinese or in English.
2. Highest diploma (notarized photocopy). Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English.
3. Applicants for master or doctoral studies need to provide relevant notarized transcripts. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English.
4. A study or research plan in Chinese or in English (no less than 500 words).
5. Applicants must submit two reference letters in Chinese or English by professors or associate professors.
6. Applicants for music are requested to submit one cassette recording of the applicants’ own work. Applicants for fine arts must submit six color photographs of personal works (two sketches, two color paintings and two other works).
7. Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form must be filled in English.
