At the 14th International Conference on Service Systems and Service Management (ICSSSM 2017) held in Dongbei University of Finance & Economics from June 16 to 18, 2017, the paper titled Delegation with Buy-back Contract in a Fashion Supply Chain under Demand Uncertainty presented by Prof. Niu Baozhang, PhD student Chen Lei and MPhil student Chen Kanglin from SCUT School of Business Administration won the Best Student Paper Award. This conference received nearly 400 papers and three finally stood out and were awarded as best student paper.

In fashion industry practice, outsourcing is prevalently adopted by OEMs to quickly respond to volatile market, in which outsourcing structure is an important strategic decision. This awarded paper find that OEM’s preference over outsourcing structures is influenced by demand enlargement effect and wholesale effect, which mitigate double-marginalization effect of outsourcing in a supply chain when demand uncertainty is moderate. This counterintuitive result contributes effectively to the existing literatures, and provides references for firms’ strategic decision making.
