Objectives

The program aims to cultivate high caliber professionals who
  - have solid theoretical knowledge in economics and management;
  - master technical economics theories and methods;
  - grasp in depth the theories and methods in project analysis, project management, technical economics, entrepreneurship, technical innovation, and risk investment;
  - have competence in engaging in industry analysis, project technical economics analysis, project management, start-up investment analysis, venture design, and technical innovation management.

Graduates can engage in management decision-making, investment decision-making analysis, project evaluation, and high level operation management in government departments, public institutions and large and medium-sized enterprises, or conduct teaching and research in areas related to technical economics.

Cultivation Mode

Each master student is assigned an academic supervisor from the faculty to provide supervision on the student's study and research. Under the direction of the supervisor, students are required to draw up, within the first two weeks after registration, a study plan and according to which they complete all the required credits by the end of the third semester. Students are bound to participate in a stage assessment according to Master Degree Candidate Medium-Term Screening Method of South China University of Technology in the third semester, and complete social practice session in the fifth semester. Students must attend at least 10 academic lectures during the program.

Master’s Thesis

Students should draw up a thesis working plan at the beginning of the fourth semester, and prepare a thesis proposal in which at least 50 pieces of citation in Chinese or foreign languages have to be covered and no less than 20 pieces have to be in English. On the completion of the thesis, the thesis defense is arranged according to the Rules for the Implementation of Graduation Degrees of South China University of Technology and the Regulations of the Applications for Thesis Defense of South China University of Technology. Before applying for the thesis defense, students are required to have published at least one research paper in journal listed on the Core Journals Catalogue for master's students publishing Research Paper with South China University of Technology being his/her affiliation, the student being the first author, or the supervisor being the first author whereas the student being the second.
