time: 2018-05-12

On April 16th – 20th 2018, by the invitation of State Key Laboratory of Pulp and Paper Engineering, Associate Professor Jean-Francis BLOCH from the State Key Laboratory of Papermaking of France visited our university and gave series of academic lectures about the processes of paper industry to the teachers and graduate students of the State Key Laboratory of Pulp and Paper Engineering. Professor BLOCH was warmly welcomed by his enthusiasm and rich theoretical knowledge which infected and attracted the teachers and students present.

During the lectures, Prof. BLOCH introduced the effects of paper structure and physical properties on the pulping and papermaking processes, illustrated the latest study results about the 3D structure of porous materials, combined the modeling of the fiber in pulp and paper process with computer simulation, and discussed deeply with our laboratory researchers. Simulation of pulping and papermaking process is a new field growing up with the development of industrial version 4. Using the technology of large data calculation and process visualization combined with experimental results, the performance of the pulp and paper product can be predicted and analyzed, which correspondingly can improve the efficiency of the industrialization of new pulp and paper technology. It has important strategic significance for the sustainable development of social economy.

Grenoble Institute Technology / Pagora (UNITEC Institute of Technology, Grenoble), which is the institute where Prof. Bloch is working, is one of the three most famous Polytechnic Colleges in France. The main objective of the institute is to cultivate high-qualified talents in France as well as in the whole Europe. For a long term, the graduates from the institute have been favored by the universities and large enterprises in France and also Europe. It has worldwide reputation and important roles of papermaking engineering for the major of papermaking engineering in the institute, aiming to cultivate high-levelled talents in the field Papermaking Engineering.
