Marxism and Liberalism in World History----Cao Tianyu Gived Speech

The 33th Humanities Forum in South China is hold in 201 room, Builing 5, Wushan campus of South China University of Technology. Professor Cao Tianyu in philosophy of BostonUniversity, addressing Marxism and Liberalism in World History, had attracted many teachers and students. The host of this forum was Wu guolin, vice president, in philosophy department. Distinguished guests, such as professor Gui Qiquan in Wuhan University were present.

Professor Cao Tianyu introducesd the topic about  hegemonism of Liberalism in global background. He pointed out that Liberalism was in the position of hegemonism, Marxism and Liberalism were all product of Capitalism. In order to understand the existing problems in Capitalism, we must trace back to Marxism and Liberalism. During this process, we could draw the outline of the correlation so that we can understand collision from macro aspects in modern times . On the basis of this, he talked about three aspects. First, why we must understand Marxism and Liberalism from the perspective of world history? How Marxism and Liberalism derives? what’s their relations? For him, without the concept of world history which hidesd binary opposition, Liberalism won’t have roots and Marxism and Liberalism have the same origins and are inseparable. On the basis of that concept, we could better understand the evolving and relations between them in the context of world history.

In the Question stage, Professor Cao Tianyu and the presented teachers and students made a broad exchange about two inevitable problems, that was, the relations between the methods of class analysis and Liberalism, and capitalist crisis. His speech enlightened all the participants.
