Founded in April 2009, department of Ideological and Political Sciences is the second independent unit, directly under South China University of Technology, devoted to the ideological and political theory teaching and research. She is  new institute, young but also with a long history. On the establishment of South China University of Technology's predecessor, South China Institute of Technology, the Department of Political Economy of the New Democratic and the Department of Marxism-Leninism was established in 1953. During the 1993 to 1999, Humanities Department, the Department of Natural Dialectics, moral education have been incorporated into the Department of Social Sciences. In 2002, the School of Arts and Social Sciences Education Center merges into Humanities and Social Sciences. In 2004, the humanities and social sciences had enters a period of rapid development. Humanities and Social Sciences are divided into four, namely the establishment of political and Public Administration, Law, Journalism and Communication, Arts. In order to effectively implement the central spirit, to further strengthen the ideological and political theory, trainning  teachers related to ideological and political theory, former political and public administration,, Institute of Political and Public Administration were set up. Ideological and Political Sciences is in Building 5, which is located in the quaint North Campus in the University of South Campus. There are nearly 300 square meters of office space.
  The college has 9 research institutions and many theoretical research centers. In addition, the Guangdong Provincial Higher Ideological Education Secretariat, Guangdong Province colleges Introduction to the basic principles of Marxism teaching and research base are also located at the ideological and political college. School counseling and health education center is affiliated Political Academy.
  The college has strong teaching force. There exsiting 60 full-time teachers, including professors, associate professor of 32 people, has a doctorate teachers accounting for 70%. Eight teachers are selected by colleges and universities in Guangdong Province into Ten Thousands of Projects training objects; nine teachers are selected into Guangdong propaganda and ideological front Ten Facing Project training object; three teachers are selected for  Guangdong Provincial Department of Education Ideological and Political Theory backbone Teachers object; three teachers from Guangdong Province, win the Guangdong excellent teacher title; 4 teachers win the Guangdong Province Two excellent teacher title; a classroom teaching of a teacher is praised Ministry of Education of Ideological and Political Theory as wonderful lesson; a teacher win the title of teacher of ideological and political theory of guangdong province; two teachers win the school title of teaching master; 4 teachers win the highest school teaching quality award-Southern Light Award; a professor at the school is distinguished Professor of Hundred Talents Program.
  College discipline construction and talents training effect is obvious. It  has two disciplines doctorate authorization and Master's degree authorization of Marxist theory, philosophy. It covers the basic principles of Marxism, Marxism in China research, studying the basic issues of Modern Chinese History, the ideological and political education, Marxist philosophy, philosophy of science and technology and other six secondary discipline master. There existe 131 postgraduates, including 38 doctoral students (Including 3 Overseas Students).
  College Courses makes outstanding achievements. There are 3 provincial quality courses, such as, the basic principles of Marxism a provincial quality courses;Mao Zedong Thought and theoretical system of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the ideological and moral cultivation and legal basis, Chinese Modern and Contemporary History.
  College of scientific makes rich research achievements. From the  establishment of Marxist College, it has obtained more than 163 research projects, in which there are more than 33 provincial and ministerial issues, including important issue of Ministry of Education Philosophy and Social Sciences research, 6 national social science fund project, the total project funding amount to 5.22 million yuan; in the magazine of Chinese Social Science, Philosophical Investigations, and Marxism published more than 40 papers, in other humanities and social sciences core journals published more than 170 papers and 12 academic monograph (including AP textbook).
  College management philosophy is to take the road of Characteristic Development. Priority is out of mind; founfamental core is politics, the most important factor is the quality of teaching, managemental cornerstone is Professor treatment. In the new historical stage of development, the institute will further pooling strengths to create a new atmosphere of united, emphasis on character, justice, humanity, and is committed to building  ideological, political, quality, with rapid development new college, which  makes new and greater contributions to school's construction and social development.
