School of Medicine of SCUT won the first prize

The Fourth National Undergraduates’ Innovation Forum & Experimental Design Contest In Basic Medical Sciences was held in Harbin on 25th and 26th, June. It was for the first time that School of Medicine of SCUT participated in the contest. Two freshmen were selected to be representatives, and they won a first and a second prize respectively, with their final scores standing out among the 90 participant universities and institutes.

During the intense oral defense, the two young representatives, Yang Jiabing and Jie Guangling were fearless. They pleased the judges, participant teachers and students with their solid professional knowledge, rigorous scientific thinking, calm and flexible defense. Finally, they won the first prize and the second prize respectively.

It is known that School of Medicine took the contest as an important opportunity to test the quality of its undergraduate education. The school asked the teachers and participant students to do their best to show the level of the school in the national contest. The school organized three rounds of pre-defenses, inviting experienced professors and experts as judges to give advice on the content of the students’ projects, the PPT design and other aspects that could improve the quality of the projects. The school said,  SCUT always paid much attention to the innovative practice undergraduate teaching, the integration of teaching and research, and creating a good atmosphere for scientific innovation. This achievement was owned to participants’ vigorous contribution, serious planning and full preparation. Also, it was the result of the university valuing the development of the school of medicine, and the school insisting in the combination of medical knowledge and engineering science as well as the dual-mentor system in undergraduate education.

This contest was sponsored by The Association of National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center , Basic Medical Education Branch of Chinese Higher Medical Education Society, the Organization of Higher Institution for Medicine Basis Major and Teaching Instruction, and was held by Harbin Medical Science University. The contest drew much attention, and 395 projects were selected from 90 universities, such as Peking University, Fudan University, Zhongshan University, Central South University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, etc., with more than 1000 teachers and students participating. In the end, 55 first prizes, 81 second prizes, and 112 third prizes were awarded.(from SCUT news)
