From July 25 to 28, 2021, the International Conference on Aggregate Science and the 20th Anniversary of AIE Research was held in Guangzhou, China. The Conference was jointly organized by the School of Materials Science and Engineering / State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices of South China University of Technology (SCUT), AIE Institute, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Luminescence from Molecular Aggregates, SCUT Research Center of AIE, National Engineering Research Center for Tissue Restoration and Reconstruction (Hong Kong Branch), CUHK-Shenzhen, and Aggregate Science Research Association. The chairman of the Conference is Academician Benzhong Tang from CUHK-Shenzhen / SCUT, and the co-chairs are Professor Anjun Qin from SCUT and Academician Bin Liu from National University of Singapore.
The Conference officially opened on July 26. Shaojing Tao, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SCUT Committee, Lulu He, Deputy Mayor of Huangpu District, Guangzhou, José Oliveira, Senior Director of Wiley Publishing Group, Xinghua Jiang, Deputy Dean of the Institute of Science and Technology of SCUT, Academician Benzhong Tang of CUHK-Shenzhen / SCUT, Academician Bin Liu of National University of Singapore, Qinze Zheng, Chief Engineer of Huangpu District Science and Technology Bureau, and hundreds of experts and scholars in the field of AIE from all over the country attended the opening ceremony, which was presided over by Professor Anjun Qin. Shaojing Tao (online), Lulu He, José Oliveira (online), and Benzhong Tang addressed the opening ceremony respectively and expressed their best wishes for the Conference.

More than 450 people of 71 institutions from 15 countries and regions attended the Conference, with 30 people attended online and 420 face-to-face. The opening ceremony and the plenary talks had accumulated more than 120,000 views on live streams home and abroad. In addition to 6 plenary talks, there were 8 parallel sessions, in which a total of 149 invited talks, 17 special talks of young scholars and 35 posters were presented. Three talks were selected as “The Best Talks” and ten posters were awarded as “The Best Posters”. Participants shared their latest research results, exchanged views and ideas, discussed directions and opportunities, and sought substantial collaboration opportunities in the Conference. The International Conference on Aggregate Science and the 20th Anniversary of AIE Research not only consolidated the core roles of China and SCUT in the field of AIE, but also promoted the international impact of China and SCUT in the field of original study on aggregate science.
