SMSE Students Win the 8th Chinese Polymer Materials Innovation & Entrepreneurship Contest for College Students

From November 12 to 14, 2020, the final match of the 8th Chinese Polymer Materiasl Innovation and Entrepreneurship Contest for College Students was held in the tire city of China, Guangrao, Shandong. After intense competitions, two teams of School of Materials Science and Engineering (SMSE), South China University of Technology have won the top prize and the second prize in the end.

The contest attracted 161 Chinese universities, the highest ever, and more than 475 teams signed up for it. A total of 53 teams from 36 universities were selected to take part in the final round through auditions and assessments by the review panelist. SMSE has achieved good results in previous contests. For this year, the two teams representing SMSE worked on the projects of silicon and self-healing damping material respectively, involving innovative and entrepreneurial ideas in work design and considering major problems and challenges to humanity. Under the professional guidance of advisors and cooperation between teammates, the two teams performed well in the defense session and got excellent results ultimately.

The Chinese Polymer Materials Innovation and Entrepreneurship Contest for College Students is jointly organized by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, China Education Association of Chemical Industry, and Rubber Valley Group. It was first held in Qingdao in 2013, and has been successfully held for seven consecutive years with remarkable results. It has been highly praised and widely recognized by all sectors of society. There are more than 500 institutions and 1800 teams home and abroad (including Russia, Belarus, Japan and others) who have participated in the Contest, with over 60 projects being successfully incubated.
